Windy City RE Takes a Commanding Presence in the Motor Row Historic District

Motor Row, the home to Chicago’s automobile industry at the beginning of the last century and now a distinct historic district is experiencing a renaissance as the City invests in a new DePaul University stadium, new hotels, and expanding mass transit service. 2015 Design Evanston Award for Rehabilitation

Recognized for sensitive integration of sustainable energy at the Evanston History Center

AltusWorks is committed to the practical and innovative preservation of places and making historic buildings more efficient. Recently, Scott Utter, Preservation Architect, attended the Design Evanston Award night where the Evanston History Center received a Rehabilitation Award for the integration of a ground source heating and cooling system into the 1897 historic mansion.

AltusWorks is honored to have led the project team; with the collaboration of the History Centers’ staff,  Eden Juron Pearlman and Kris Hartzell; and the support of Mark Nussbaum of ACE, and Phil Robertson of Bulley & Andrews who all contributed to the project success.   Read full entry »

Cook County Hospital Site Generates Intense Interest

Ellen Stoner, AltusWorks’ Principal, was a member of a civic group sharing strategies on how to redevelop the historic Cook County Hospital building.  Ellen, a new member of Lambda Alpha International, was honored to be part of Team Bennett, so named for Edward H. Bennett, the sometimes forgotten co-author of the Plan of Chicago.

The presentations from five groups took place at the Chicago Architecture Foundation and were designed to generate ideas for the redevelopment RFP which will be released later this year.   Read full entry »
