Charter and Contract School Accessibility Surveys
AltusWorks surveyed barriers to accessibility and prepared ADA-compliant recommendations as part of a Chicago Public Schools program to identify levels of accessibility at Charter and Contract Schools that occupy CPS owned facilities. The program was intended to address sixty facilities over a four year period. At nine Charter School campuses, AltusWorks provided reports consisting of detailed accessibility surveys of each building with recommendations and associated costs for physical and programmatic alterations. The reports informed the Charter School operators of their accessibility compliance requirements and assisted them in obtaining a CPS grant that funded portions of the needed improvements. To further assure the schools’ compliance, the CPS Director of ADA Policy contracted AltusWorks to prepare preliminary design documents for three grant recipients.
