Curtainwall Rehabilitation at Truman and Daley Chicago City Colleges
AltusWorks is leading a multi-disciplinary team in the curtainwall rehabilitation and transformation of two c.1980 Meisian-style steel and glass education buildings at Chicago’s Daley and Truman Colleges. Similarly detailed, both structures are, not surprisingly, experiencing similar problems.
AltusWorks’ initial evaluation utilized innovative building science testing techniques to fully understand the systems’ behavior to ensure that design solutions will (1) rectify system failures, (2) enhance energy performance, and (3) improve aesthetics through additive sustainable elements aligning with City Colleges of Chicago’s dedication to sustainability and a superior student experience. The true measure of the project’s success, and one of its objectives, will be obtaining a LEED EBOM (Existing Building Operation and Maintenance) designation encompassing operational policies to support the curtainwall rehabilitaiton.
