Envelope Evaluation:
Manhattan Building

While a Senior Associate at BauerLatoza Studio, AltusWorks Principal Ellen Stoner acted as Project Manager & Architect for a major façade renovation project at the Manhattan Building, a national and city landmark built in 1897 and designed by William Le Baron Jenney. The 16-story brick, terra cotta and granite building had received several citations for masonry failures due to long-term water infiltration and deferred maintenance. Ms. Stoner performed a Critical Examination of the exterior walls to meet the requirements of the City of Chicago’s Façade Ordinance, as well as developed construction documents for the masonry repairs. She also provided the construction administration services for the $3.5M project.
