Expansions:
La Pena Restaurante
La Pena is a popular Ecuadorian restaurant located in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago. To accommodate the needs of this growing and successful business, the owner hired AltusWorks to provide design solutions for the expansion and remodeling of the restaurant, including the kitchen, bar, dance floor, restrooms, and staff breakroom. The kitchen and restrooms will be relocated to a new rear addition, allowing increased space in the bar area and on the dance floor. Special challenges in this assignment included creating an efficient design for the vertical circulation within a shallow footprint; creatively addressing the structural issues presented by the new addition; and phasing the work schedule to allow the restaurant to remain open during construction.
